In a distressing incident that unfolded at Moreau Lake State Park on Saturday evening, New York authorities are intensively searching for a 9-year-old girl, Charlotte Sena, amidst fears of a possible abduction. The young girl, who was on a camping trip with her family, was last seen on Loop A at around 6:15 p.m. wearing an orange tie-dye Pokémon shirt, dark blue pants, black Crocs, and a gray bike helmet, as reported by the New York State Police.
Sena’s disappearance occurred following a bike ride within the park, according to information provided by the Times Union. The family is deeply troubled by the sudden turn of events, and the authorities are actively engaged in efforts to locate the missing child. Described as White with blonde hair, Charlotte stands 5-foot-1 and weighs 90 pounds.
Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) addressed the public in a news conference on Sunday afternoon, expressing her concern and empathizing with Sena’s parents who are undoubtedly distraught. Hochul emphasized the family’s intention to create lasting memories during their camping excursion, lamenting how the day had transformed into a nightmare for every parent.
“She [Sena] was seen by everyone as a genuinely kind girl, the type others wanted as a friend, someone who looked out for fellow children,” Governor Hochul remarked. “The pride of every parent. So, it’s a very difficult time for her family.”
Charlotte Sena hails from Saratoga County, and the search efforts involve multiple agencies utilizing helicopters, bloodhounds, K-9s, air boats, and ATVs. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children expressed grave concern online, stating that the circumstances surrounding Sena’s disappearance lead authorities to believe she is in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death.
The alarm was raised when the police received a call about her disappearance around 6:45 p.m. While Sena’s bike has been reportedly found, it remains unclear whether it was located by family members or first responders. Providing insight into the situation, State Police Troop G Public Information Officer Stephanie O’Neil described Sena as a highly intelligent and adventurous 9-year-old, highlighting that her current situation is entirely out of character.
